The 152nd Sassari Infantry regiment concluded a 3-week training cycle, integrating the digital battlefield simulation systems with the exercises on the ground, within the framework of the normal training and preparation process for the Army soldier.

The "Dimonios" were able to test the level of preparation of one of their light infantry units first through the virtual simulation of the operational scenario, recreated with the battlefield reproduction systems VBS-3 (Virtual Battlespace 3) and training in the shooting FATS (Firearms Training System) and subsequently putting into practice, in the territory of the Goceano (central-northern Sardinia), what simulated.

In this period of emergency health conditions, the use of virtual reality training systems has proved particularly suitable and effective to guarantee the training of soldiers in compliance with the appropriate measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The digital simulation, developed in the "Gonzaga" barracks, headquarters of the 152 ° "Sassari", involved the infantrymen of the 1st battalion who were able to prepare themselves in complex and difficult hypothetical / real situations, simulating limit and particularly emergency conditions, artificially created ad hoc, in absolute safety and with minimum operating costs.

The 3 weeks of training ended with a two-day continuous activity of patrolling and acquisition of a target, conducted in the areas of the municipality of Bono (SS), along impervious itineraries in a wooded environment developed over several kilometers, where the armies have could verify on the ground the correctness of what was planned and tested in the virtual phase.

During the 48 continuous hours of activity, the "Sassarini" have perfected their training in day and night terrestrial navigation techniques with the use of specific geo-localization systems and light-intensifying viewers, tested the level of preparation staff physics, overcoming paths characterized by significant differences in height and dense vegetation, as well as honing the skills in the recognition and acquisition of a target, typical of the use of the platoon explorers in operation.
