The constitution of corps of engineers of the Army originates from the technical services of the various Weapons. In fact, since their establishment in the early 900s, the Engineers Officers have shown their versatility and natural propensity to operate in different sectors characterized by a high technical connotation, such as artillery, motorization, genius, transmissions, chemical-physical and geographical services. .
In the evolution of events and in the mutation of scenarios and operational contexts, the corps of engineers continue, today as then, to provide an essential contribution to the renewal process of the Armed Forces and to counter the new threats of our time. With an approach based on scientific rigor and the ability to adapt to emerging challenges, the body of engineers is currently employed in new fields which, alongside traditional sectors of use, range from, just to name a few, from cyber security to environmental protection, from network operations to space operations.
The predisposition to innovation is the fulcrum around which the action of the body orbits which, made up exclusively of officers holding a master's degree in scientific disciplines, ensures at home and in operations outside the national territory that technical support which has become an indispensable condition for guaranteeing the full operation of the military instrument. In this perspective, the activities of the corps in the research and development sector should not be neglected, thanks to which innovative solutions are conceived and developed with important implications both in the military and in the civil sector.
The officers of the Corps of Engineers continue, in a decisive way, to provide, with self-denial, professionalism and competence, their support for the development of a modern, effective and technologically advanced Army: an Army 4.0.
