The 79th "Alfa" amphibious qualification course was concluded in recent days at the "Serenissima" lagoon regiment which, after an intense training process that lasted five weeks, saw 22 new qualified amphibia.

During the course the students learned to know and use the materials and equipment supplied to the lagoons, as well as to acquire the basic technical and tactical skills to operate in an amphibious, lagoon and "riverine" environment.

The course, carried out under the supervision of highly qualified instructors of military amphibious combat techniques (IMTCA) and in full compliance with the current provisions on combating COVID-19, saw the students involved in the military district of Malcontenta to conduct the terrestrial training and on the Vignole island in Venice for training with AAV7 amphibious floats and boats.

The participants in the course came from the “Serenissima” lagoon regiment, from the 3rd sappers regiment of Udine and from the 17th “Sforzesca” anti-aircraft artillery regiment.

Amphibious training represents a sine qua non condition for lagoons to stay in the department and become part of the amphibious component of the Army.

At the end of the course, the regimental commander Colonel Claudio Guaschino congratulated all the newly qualified. For the first time the course saw a woman as first classified, the corporal major Domiziana Giulianelli, effective at the 17th “Sforzesca” anti-aircraft artillery regiment to which Colonel Guaschino expressed his particular applause for the result achieved.

The newly qualified can wear the badge of merit of qualification amphibian established in March 2021 in the Army Uniform Regulations.
