The 2nd training course for "Military Rescuers" conducted by Brigade Medical Training Team (BMTT) of the "Garibaldi" bersaglieri brigade and organized in the "Cavalleggeri Guide" regiment (19th) in favor of soldiers from various departments of Italy.

The intense four weeks of training were divided into two phases. The first is "theoretical", based on lessons in anatomy, human physiology and the enabling of the semi-automatic external defibrillator (BLS-D) without neglecting the psychological aspects of rescue. The second "practical" phase, oriented to the practical management of the lessons learned through the creation of possible scenarios and simulated health activities, conducted, in daytime and nighttime, also in the training areas of Persano.

The training was also aimed at providing the skills for the clinical classification and the management of the first emergencies in fire action (Care Under Fire), the management of bleeding and orthopedic trauma, the maintenance of blood volume. The course then ended under the supervision of an evaluation team of the School of Health and Veterinary of Rome.

Considering the health emergency relating to Covid-19, the course was scheduled by implementing the envisaged containment and management measures of the emergency, especially with the adoption of the envisaged individual protection devices and the distance between the attenders.

The ability to manage health emergencies in operational contexts represents a training objective to be achieved not only by the health component but by the entire military community with different levels of improvement. This is why the Italian Army, in agreement with the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Policies, has long established the figure of the military rescuer, who has become, over the past few years, an indispensable element in the operational activities carried out by the units on the ground and fundamental in the many international missions.

Even in this emergency, the Italian Army continues staff training. Training and preparation are unavoidable activities since they allow to pursue the necessary level of "operational readiness". An output that is effectively reflected in the over 20.000 soldiers engaged every day in operations abroad and on the national territory or in immediate readiness.
