108th anniversary of the "Sassari" brigade

The "Sassari" brigade celebrated yesterday, in the parade ground of the "Monfenera" barracks in Cagliari, the 108th anniversary of its establishment, which took place on 1 March 1915, the date of birth of the two historical regiments, the 151st in Sinnai and the 152nd in Tempio Pausania.

The infantrymen of the "Sassari", valiant soldiers renamed "dimonios" for their granite sense of duty and courageous impetus during the assaults, were among the protagonists in the trenches of the First World War.

The military ceremony, held in front of the war flags of the brigade departments, took place in the presence of the Commander of the South Operating Forces, army corps general Giuseppenicola Tota, the president of the Regional Council of Sardinia Michele Pais and numerous civil, religious and military authorities of the island.

Also present were the Gonfalone of the city of Cagliari, decorated with the Gold Medal of Military Valor, of Tempio Pausania, decorated with the Silver Medal of Civil Valor, of the Region of Sardinia, of the metropolitan city of Cagliari, Sassari, Nuoro, Oristano, Sinnai, Selargius, Teulada, Paulilatino, Sant'Anna Arresi and the Combatant and Weapon Associations.

In his speech, the commander of the "Sassari", Brigadier General Giuseppe Bossa, underlined how the Brigade over the years has become a symbol of Sardinia and the pride of the Sardinian people, highlighting its professional skills and guarantees of efficiency, but also the values in the field during its 108-year history by the Army soldiers stationed on the island.

During the general event Tota delivered the Army Silver Cross of Merit to the War Flag of the "Sassari" logistics regiment for the activities carried out in support of the regional health service in the fight against the pandemic.
