100 military operating in the land of fires

100 are the men and women of the Army since yesterday operating in the so-called "land of Fires", a territory between the province of Caserta and Naples.

The military has the task of patrolling and monitoring the areas identified within the municipalities that have signed the "Land of Fires" pact to prevent and repress environmental crimes, in particular the uncontrolled spillage of further waste and the consequent illegal bonfires. .

The sectors of intervention were indicated by the prefectures of Naples and Caserta and assigned to the soldiers of the Army of the "Garibaldi" brigade of Caserta, already responsible for the Campania grouping for the "Safe Roads" operation in Campania where it has been operating for over 5 years , with over 500 units for fighting crime and against environmental crimes.

The Army is in competition with law enforcement agencies to provide support for the monitoring and supervision of the territory, for the competition to environmental surveys and also to provide logistical support for the removal of any buried material.

There are about 4000 Army soldiers who since 4 August 2008, are employed in competition with the police forces in the national operation "Safe Roads" in patrol and surveillance activities for sensitive targets, metropolitan areas, identification and expulsion centers (CIE) and to the CARA (Asylum Seekers Assistance Centers). Since the start of the operation the Army has contributed to the seizure of more than 2 tons of drugs, over 560 weapons, almost 12.000 means, more than 14.000 arrests and checks about 1 million and 900 thousand people and over a million vehicles.
