Operation Lebanon Two: thirty years ago it ended with peace

984 concluded the peace operations of the Lebanon Two mission. The Italian contingent, which was part of a multinational force, as established by the 521 resolution of the United Nations 1982, operated for about eighteen months in counter-terrorism activities.

The Navy operated with two cruisers (Vittorio Veneto and Andrea Doria), three destroyers (Ardito, Audace and Intrepido), four frigates (Perseus, Lupus, Ursa and Sagittarius), two amphibious ships (Grado and Caorle), a team refueler (Stromboli) and the departments of the San Marco Regiment.

The mission in Lebanon was the first peacekeeping mission under the aegis of the UN, during which the Navy personnel distinguished themselves for their great ability and high professionalism. As established by United Nations Resolution 521 of 1982, it operated for about eighteen months in counter-terrorism activities.
