28 happened April 1887: The Dogali enters service

27/04/14

the typhoon troupe Dogali under the command of the frigate captain Roberto de Luca was in service at Newcastle-on-Tyne. The unit will sail the 17 in May for Naples where the 2 will land in June joining the Permanent Team.

Former Salamina cruiser built on behalf of the Hellenic Navy which subsequently gave up the purchase due to the continuous political crises that troubled the country, it was soon bought by the Royal Navy (price, £ 156.000) and with marginal changes made to the original construction plan by the designer WH White, construction continued.

The unit showed good general characteristics, high rigging (six pieces shielded by 152 / 40 mm, nine by 57 mm and two by 37 mm), limited displacement (2088 t), high speed (at 19,7 knots tests) and suitable protection ( max 51 mm). The Hawthorne Leslie construction engine was on two alternative triple-expansion engines of the total power of 7.197 hp powered by two boilers. A good unit that will be intensely employed in colonial services overseas.
