Wednesday - In the presence of King Umberto I the maritime military arsenal whose construction began in September of the 1883 is inaugurated in Taranto.
The work that committed the sum of 9.300.000 lire (including the cut of the navigable channel for the connection of the Mar Piccolo with the Mar Grande), occupies an area of over 90 has of which 70 discovered, overlooking the southern shore of the first sine del Mar Piccolo bounded on the city side by a high wall 7 me along 3250 m; has a sea front of approximately 3 km from which 4,5 km of docks develop and is equipped with a large masonry basin called Prince of Naples prepared during the year and two construction airports.
Due to its size and location, the arsenal greatly influenced the urban development of modern Taranto.
