It runs at various speeds on a straight course with the wind in the prow having a hydro-glider towed (A seaplane without an engine, basically a glider with under-wing floats, designed and built by Calderara himself with "on-board vehicles" and arsenal help) piloted by ship lieutenant Mario Calderara for a series of flight tests.
With this system, Calderara, a convinced enthusiast of the aerial vehicle, is able to slowly detach himself from the water, to release the tow cable, to hover in the air and to make short flights and then to land. With this exploit that originates from his studies on "kites equipped with floats", the Italian naval officer anticipates, albeit in an indicative way, the advent of the seaplane.
