units of the Permanent Squad leave Gaeta for Messina and then proceed to the waters of the Levant where the political situation and the various international interferences had created a dangerous tension (political-military crises in the Balkan countries, friction of the Ottoman Empire with European nations, unrest in Egypt) which required a significant flag presence for the protection of local national communities.
In the meantime, the unrest in Alexandria, which will spread violently to the whole country, will require the long-term detachment from the Permanent Squad and the deployment in the eastern Mediterranean waters of the battleships Principe Amedeo, Palestro (in the photo), Duilio, Ancona and of the Quick Notice.
