01 November 1893: Adopted the time with reference to the Greenwich meridian

(To Marina Militare)
01/11/15

Wednesday - The central European meridian time is adopted which is an hour ahead of Greenwich mean time. Following this, the hours in the offices and establishments of the Navy are counted on the average meridian time at 15 ° E of Greenwich from zero to twenty-four hours starting from midnight and calculating the date according to civil use.

For ships sailing between national ports the same rule is observed while for those in foreign ports the clocks must be set to the time of the country.

[The Royal Observatory was founded in Greenwich (a suburb of London on the right bank of the Thames) in the 1675 commissioned by Charles II. This is no longer used as a research laboratory but is still the reference point for the Greenwich meridian: the fundamental meridian]
