From 14 to 18 April the activities of the AM Marshals School - Viterbo Airport Command were characterized by the 2025 Sports Games - 12th Trophy Giulia Engraved of the Rocchetta, which saw the two courses in instruction at the school, the 26th Gladius II and the 27 ° Izar II, face each other in a week of exciting sporting challenges.
Since the establishment of the AM Marshals School, the event has represented an important formative moment for the student marshals engaged and evaluated every day in a multitude of activities. Among these, sports are one of the most characterizing elements of the educational activity of the institute, practiced by the students both as a curricular school subject and as a free afternoon activity, and is included in the educational projects aimed at transmitting the fundamental values of the Air Force Marshals School.
At the end of five intense days of competition, characterised by high-level sporting results but also by lots of fun and fair play, the competition was clearly dominated by the 27th team Izar II, who dominated with 22 points compared to the opponents' 9.
The 27th course in detail Izar II triumphed in the summary team event of individual gymnastics events (2000 m., push-ups, sit-ups), in the men's 8 x 200 m relay, in both swimming relays 6 x 50 m freestyle, in men's volleyball and in cross-country running, while the 26th course Gladius II won the women's 8 x 200-meter relay, the women's volleyball race and the basketball race.
The closing ceremony, presided over by the commander of the Marshals School and the Viterbo airport, Colonel Gianluca Spina, was attended, among others, by the commander of the courses, Col. Dario Ricci and Mr. Tommaso Incisa della Rocchetta, brother of the late Giulia, in whose memory the games are dedicated.
In his speech at the closing ceremony, preparatory to the proclamation of the winner and the closing of the Ludi, Col. Spina, after thanking Mr. Tommaso who with his presence had given prestige to the ceremony, outlined the figure of Giulia highlighting the positive values that her memory, as an athlete and a soldier, symbolizes. Then, addressing the students, he complimented them for their commitment and for the spirit with which everyone faced the competition: “It was a great week of sports and fun that you will hardly forget; beyond the result itself, you are all winners because you all faced the challenge with seriousness and passion, confirming once again the possession of exceptional values and positive qualities, those values written in the DNA of every soldier but also of every athlete: commitment, determination, resistance, sacrifice, availability, cohesion, fairness. Well done everyone!”.
The 2025 Sports Games, and in particular the opening ceremony held on April 14, also represented the occasion to inaugurate the new airport gym that will enhance the already numerous sports facilities of the training institute. The gym, which represents a new resource available to students in education for the care of their physical preparation, is located in the sports fields area, characterized by a universal design, with a surface area of almost 550 square meters. Built in a heavy carpentry structure, earthquake-proof load-bearing and insulated roof, the new gym is made of cutting-edge materials and has latest-generation systems in compliance with industry regulations with a view to optimizing resources and protecting the environment, among which the solar thermal, pressurization, air conditioning and photovoltaic systems stand out. The gym is equipped with a wide range of modern and ergonomic equipment for performing athletic, gymnastic, body building and free body exercises.
The sports games of the Air Force Marshals School / Viterbo Airport Command are named after the chosen airman Giulia Incisa Della Rocchetta, glider pilot of the AM sports center of Vigna di Valle, who died in June 2005 during the International Gliding Championships in Romorantin - France. The unfortunate athlete, with her activity, embodied the positive values of sport and brought great prestige to the armed force.
The Air Force Marshals School / Viterbo Airport Command is under the command of the AM schools and the 3rd air region of Bari; the department has a dual mission: on the one hand, as a university-level institution, it has the task of providing military and moral training and specific professional instruction for non-commissioned officers of the Marshals role, as well as improving and updating such training; on the other hand, as a military airport open to civilian traffic, it provides technical-operational support, air navigation services and force-protection activity at the Tommaso Fabbri airport.
