The event ended on Sunday 6th April in Florence Interschool Sports Tournament (TIS), the biennial event that sees the four Italian military schools – the Nunziatella of Naples and the Teuliè of Milan for the Army, the Morosini of Venice for the Navy and the “Giulio Douhet” Air Force Military School of Florence for the Air Force – compete in various sports disciplines, representing an important moment of meeting and sharing among the young people who have chosen to attend Italian military high schools, united by the fundamental values of our Armed Forces and sport, such as loyalty, altruism, spirit of sacrifice and esprit de corps.
This year, it was the Air Force High School, the host of the event, that won the 200th edition of the tournament, which saw almost XNUMX students from military schools compete in disciplines such as athletics, swimming, basketball and volleyball.
The tournament kicked off on Thursday, April 3, with the opening ceremony, followed by the men’s and women’s 100-meter and 1000-meter dashes, the men’s and women’s 4x100-meter medley relay, and the men’s and women’s high jump.
In athletics, the girls and boys of the Air Force, trained by Professor Stefano Pucci, managed to assert themselves by obtaining at least one podium finish in all disciplines and, specifically, dominating the men's 1000 metres and the women's high jump.
From Thursday afternoon 3rd until Saturday 5th April, it was the turn of volleyball and basketball.
For both sports, each school fielded a mixed-gender team.
At the end of a series of cross-challenges, Douhet won the volleyball tournament, during which it never lost a set in all the matches played. The basketball tournament, instead, went to the Morosini School of Venice.
On Sunday morning, April 6, the tournament concluded with the swimming events: the 50-meter men's and women's freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke, plus the 4×50-meter medley relay.
In the swimming competition, the Douhet athletes led by Professor Margherita Paita, managed to obtain 2 silvers and 2 bronzes.
At the end of the competitions, the closing ceremony took place, presided over by Air Brigade General Giovanni Francesco Adamo, commander of theInstitute of Aeronautical Military Sciences of Florence and in the presence of the commanders of the military schools and civil authorities.
During the ceremony, the winning students of each discipline were awarded, as well as the Douhet School which, thanks to the sum of the individual results obtained, managed to reach the top of the multidisciplinary tournament scoreboard, taking home the Challenge trophy for the third time in its history.
“For the young boys and girls of the four military schools, the Interschool Sports Tournament represented an important opportunity to meet in a context of healthy competition and an opportunity for educational growth focused on the values of discipline, teamwork and mutual respect” – highlighted Colonel Mauro Nazzi, commander of the Douhet School – “The important result obtained by Douhet demonstrates the Institute's desire to provide its students with the opportunity to develop skills in different sports by offering a complete multidisciplinary program”.
The “Giulio Douhet” Air Force Military School, inaugurated in 2006, is a secondary school that offers courses for the last three years in the classical and scientific fields, which is accessed through a public competition.
The purpose of the institute is to promote a balanced growth of the students in terms of human, cultural, moral, physical and character so that they have the necessary skills to become good citizens and face the challenges of tomorrow, regardless of the future life choices of each student.
