Gold for the Army in the marathon

Laila Soufyane, 1 ° Army Major Corporal has won gold at the 48 ° World Military Marathon Championship. The athlete covered the 42 km of the race in two hours thirty-six minutes and thirty-two seconds, a performance that allowed her to win the absolute first place in the women's category also in the concomitant XXX edition of the Turin Marathon.

The opening ceremony of the Championship took place on Saturday 1 October with the flag-raising ceremony of the Italian flag and the flag of International Military Sports Commission in Piazza San Carlo. On the notes of the CISM anthem, performed by the fanfare of the "Taurinense" Alpine brigade, 170 members of the 22 international delegations marched along via Roma to the piazza in the Piedmontese capital.

There were seven Italian military athletes - four men and three women - including the major corporal chosen by the Italian Army Fatna Maroui, who in last year's edition of the Turin Marathon he took second place.

First classified in the male category Arkadiusz Gardzielewski (Poland) followed by Franck Almeida (Brazil) and Mariusz Gizynski (Poland). Excellent result also for Manuel Cominotti, corporal of the Army, who made his debut at the CISM trophy earning fourth place.

Italian and foreign military athletes were welcomed in Turin by an enthusiastic public that confirmed the relevance of the CISM motto "friendship through sport".

The awards for military athletes were held on Sunday morning in Piazza Castello, on the sidelines of the award ceremony Turin Marathon, while the formal closing ceremony of the 48 ° World Military Marathon Championship took place in the evening, inside the courtyard of honor of the Palazzo dell'Arsenale, home of the Army Application School.
