The vintage sails of the Navy at the 'Copa del Rey' Regatta

The 24th edition of the "Copa del Rey de Barcos de Época - Vela Clásica Menorca" event took place from 27 to XNUMX August in the waters surrounding Port Mahon, on the island of Menorca. The regatta is part of the "Spanish Vintage and Classic Boats Championship" and the "Mare Nostrum Classics Trophy", important competition circuits for vintage sailing ships.

Different categories of sailing ships took part in the regatta:

- Vintage: boats launched until 1949.
- Classic: boats launched between 1950 and 1975.
- Spirit of Tradition: sailing yachts complying with the standards established by the technical commission.
- Big Boats: boats with hulls longer than 23 m.

Among the boats there are also some sailboats of the Marina, divided between the various categories, according to the technical characteristics: Capricia, North Star e Chaplin they competed in the category Classic and  Caroly between Big Boats.

On board the boats also the students of the second class of the Naval Academy, the course Mizar, which have been tested not only from a physical point of view, to exploit even the faintest breath of wind, but above all from the point of view of collaboration: in fact, the greatest difficulties encountered during a regatta are related to the ability to move harmoniously with the rest of the crew to carry out the maneuvers as quickly as possible.

Team spirit, sacrifice and resistance to fatigue are fundamental requirements for racing crews and have always represented the pillars of being a sailor.

At the end of the third and final day of racing, on 27 August, the one obtained by the Caroly, in third place in the category.

The students of the course Mizar they are now preparing to return to Italy after the stop in Alghero and the change of crews.
