The “2 hours no limits” challenge has ended, with Lt. Col. Gianfranco Paglia competing in Paralympic Nordic skiing in Val di Fiemme. The first tetraplegic to compete in this discipline, this morning he broke the first record of the season by covering 2 meters in 11.680 hours.
Accompanied by the Undersecretary of State for Defense, Senator Isabella Rauti, by the Commander of the Alpine troops of the Army, Gen. D. Michele Risi and by the athletes of the Paralympic Nordic Skiing national team, Lt. Col. Paglia has reached a new milestone.
“Despite the difficulties that a disabled person experiences on a daily basis, through these activities we try to make people understand that disability cannot and must not be a limitation” - declared Lt. Col. Paglia – "Life is made, like ski routes, of climbs but also descents and it is up to all of us not to marginalize anyone. Obstacles can be overcome and I will never stop saying that the real victory will be when no one feels different and society learns from these differences that are the result of teaching. I thank the Defense and the organizers who have allowed the realization of such an event and I address all those who live with disability - do not give up, we are always the authors of our destiny".
