The Military Academy of Modena has won the XXXII edition of the Military Academies Tournament, a competition in which, in addition to the representative team of the Military Academy itself, those of the Naval Academy (Livorno), the Air Force Academy (Pozzuoli) and the Academy of the Guardia di Finanza (Bergamo) participated.
With victories achieved in swimming, athletics, volleyball and precision shooting with a 0.22mm cal. pistol, the students of the Military Academy and the officers attending the Army Officers School of Turin, together with the students of the Carabinieri of Rome, have brought back to the historic headquarters of Palazzo Ducale, for the third consecutive edition, the coveted “Challenge” Trophy, the highest sporting distinction of the Italian military inter-academic competitions.
During the closing ceremony, held in the presence of the commanders of the training institutes involved in the event, division general Davide Scalabrin, commander of the oldest military training institute in the world, underlined how "motivation, team spirit, the will to overcome one's limits and give the best of oneself, are fundamental values for those like us who wear a uniform", reiterating the importance of this tournament as a “a gym where you trained in daily comparison with colleagues from other environments, closely studying the different professional cultures and developing a broader inter-force vision”.
The event, which has been held every two years since 1967 on the initiative of the Defense General Staff, aims to strengthen, through sports competition, the relationships of mutual knowledge, esteem and collaboration between the officer cadets of the various armed forces and the Guardia di Finanza. A unique occasion in which future military leaders compete not only on athletic skills, but above all on the fundamental values of military conduct: loyalty, spirit of sacrifice, discipline and physical preparation.
This year, the Modena Military Academy, which had the honor of hosting the XXXII edition of the Tournament at its sports facilities, welcoming over 270 athletes competing in five disciplines (athletics, basketball, volleyball, swimming and shooting), thanks to the third consecutive victory of the event, will hold and guard, permanently at the Institute as established in the tournament regulations, the coveted trophy.
The event confirmed, once again, the role of the Military Academy as a center of excellence not only in military training, but also in the development of sporting and character qualities of future Army and Carabinieri officers.
