Today at the headquarters of the Defense Staff, the meeting was held between the Chief of Defense Staff Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone and the head of the Space Operations of the United States Space Force, in compliance with the bilateral cooperation that exists between our country and the United States of America with regard to the theme "Space".

During the aforementioned meeting, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone wanted to specify that "It is hoped to continue to strengthen cooperation with the US Defense in the space sector, especially as regards joint training and training, and to give impetus to the participation of the Italian Defense in the CSpO, Combined Space Operation Initiative."

The CSpO was launched in 2014 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, in order to strengthen deterrence, improve resilience and optimize resources in the space domain. Subsequently, New Zealand, Germany and France joined the project, to date the only European nations represented in the CSpO.

Although it is not a purely operational project, it constitutes a forum of international importance in which the future of space operations, doctrinal evolution and common standards of interoperability are discussed from a multilateral perspective.

During the meeting, the American commitment was renewed - already shown during the last year Space Symposium - to support Italy's intention to be part of the initiative in question. Furthermore, it was agreed on the advisability of opening specific bilateral technical discussions on the issues of Space Policy and Doctrine and Space Operations, preparatory to the entry of Italy into the aforementioned forum.

In addition, the possibility of participating in the exercise was discussed Schriever Wargame, US exercise open to selected partner nations and to attend advanced space courses taught by the US Space Force.

General John W. Raymond is the first and current head of the newly formed American Space Force, the sixth US Armed Force (in addition to the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard), which uses a structure articulated that includes a staff, responsible for the development of doctrine and plans for the performance of the functions of the Space Force, and three field commands for the preparation and use of forces.

As regards the aspects of cooperation with the USA, Italy boasts a traditional and profitable activity of capacitive and operational exchanges between the Defenses in the Space sector. In particular, gods are active Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for access to the encrypted service of the GPS (Global Positioning System), called PPS (Precision Positioning System), for the exchange of satellite communication resources (SATCOM) and for the exchange of data and information of SSA (Space Situational Awareness), necessary to carry out orbital maneuvers safely avoiding collisions with other operational satellites and space debris.
