Fighting drunk driving at "Adopt a 2015 Road"

26/06/15

Information, awareness-raising and communication to combat driving while intoxicated, reduce road accidents on some of the most dangerous state roads in Italy and inform motorists on the correct methods of transporting minors by car.

The 31 edition of Adotta una strada, a project launched by the ANIA Foundation and the Carabinieri, is starting today and will be ending on August 2015.

For the next two months along the SS 36 "Lake Como and Spluga", SS 309 "Romea", SS 131 "Carlo Felice" and the SS 114 "Orientale Sicula", the Carabinieri will intensify checks especially in at night and on weekends, with particular attention to the drunkenness of drivers which will be verified thanks to special devices donated by the ANIA Foundation. The decision to intervene on Italian state roads is linked to the fact that, in the last year, these sections have recorded over 31 deaths per week, for a total of 1643 deaths, equal to 48,5% of the total deaths due to road accidents. in Italy. In this context, 4 of the most dangerous arteries in Italy were chosen for the number of accidents and deaths (see table).

To all drivers who will be stopped, disposable testers will be donated that will allow you to check the status before driving, as well as a postcard that, following the hashtag # nonrischioperché, launched a year ago, summarizes the main rules of the code of road related to driving under the influence of alcohol. Great attention, then, will be reserved for communication and awareness also on other aspects of road safety; at the end of the checks, the carabinieri will offer motorists an information leaflet on the correct transport of minors by car: a non-random choice, given that in the 2015 the UN has dedicated the World Road Safety Week to the protection of children as road users .

«This project represents the perfect synthesis of the philosophy of the ANIA Foundation - explains the general secretary, Umberto Guidoni - because it encompasses all those factors that have been the basis of our projects for over 10 years. To reduce the number of road accidents in Italy it is essential to promote a new culture of respect for the rules. To do this, we need careful communication and awareness, but also an interaction between public and private, citizens and institutions, associations and law enforcement agencies. The previous editions of Adotta una strada have also given excellent results due to the deterrence factor induced by the greater number of checks and, for this reason, we hope that this new experience will also lead to a decrease in the number of accidents and deaths ».
