The 28th Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Samantha Joy Mostyn, visited, on Saturday 20 July, the aircraft carrier Cavour, the hub of the carrier strike groups Italian (IT CSG) which also includes Ship Alpine, during the stop of the air-naval device in Darwin for the exercise Pitch black 24.
The governor was welcomed by Rear Admiral Giancarlo Ciappina, commander of the carrier strike groups, and by Captain Milos Argenton, commander of the unit, who, as part of the visit, illustrated the operational capabilities of the CSG and the relevance of the deployment in the Indo-Pacific. For the occasion on board the Cavour The ship's commander was also present Alpine, frigate captain Salvatore Santangelo. During a tour of the ship, the governor also had the opportunity to come into contact with the crew of the aircraft carrier and view the operational and technical rooms on board, noting how advanced the potential of the Italian aircraft carrier is.
