Visit of the Kfor commander to the Multinational Battle Group West

26/08/14

In recent days the commander of KFOR, general Salvatore Farina, went to the base of "Villaggio Italia", home of the Italian contingent led by "Lancieri di Montebello", to meet the units of the Multinational Battle Group West (MNBG-W).

To Italian, Slovenian, Austrian and Moldovan troops, General Farina, who from the first days of September will cede the command to his compatriot General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, addressed his personal appreciation and thanks for the work done with professionalism, ability and commitment, which allowed a concrete improvement in security conditions throughout Kosovo.

According to the concept of "Kosovo-wide" promoted by the commander Farina, in fact, all the companies making up the MNBG-W were used in rotation also in the north of the country, a sector with US responsibility in which the main effort of the KFOR maneuver is concentrated .

This process was necessary to allow the units to be employed in the performance of the entire operating spectrum of the Kosovar theater and, at the same time, to allow the full integration of the forces in the field, increasing their flexibility and professionalism.

During the visit, General Farina also took the opportunity to meet the mayor of Peja, Mr. Gazmend Muhaxheri and the mayor of Decane, Mr. Rasim Selmanaj, with whom the MNBG-W, and in particular the Italian contingent, intensified partnerships for the local population.

Finally, Commander Farina visited the Visoki Decani Monastery, where he discussed with the representative of the monastic community, Father Sava Iancic, the evolution of the site guard service, which will soon be even more efficient thanks to the integration of the same with a video surveillance system developed through an Italian civil military cooperation program.
