UNIFIL: Public lighting project of the Blue Helmets

An important project for the redevelopment, adaptation and energy efficiency of the public lighting systems of the municipality of Mazraat Al Mushrif, in southern Lebanon, was completed and inaugurated by the soldiers of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, the United Nations Force deployed in the country of Cedars.

The project, entirely financed with funds from the Ministry of Defense and carried out by the military of the civil-military cooperation of the national contingent, involved a peripheral stretch of road that leads to the center of the village.

The redevelopment involved the replacement of obsolete lighting fixtures and the installation of photovoltaic panel systems in accordance with current regulations on renewable energy. The 24 light points installed, being powered by solar energy, allow a drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The symbolic inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of the commander of the western sector of UNIFIL, general Andrea Di Stasio, of the mayor of Mazraat Al Mushrif, Hassan Alloul.

Unanimous was the satisfaction and gratitude expressed by the authorities present towards the Italian soldiers for their constant commitment over the years in Lebanon and, on this particular occasion, for improving the quality of life of the local population, one of the tasks assigned to the contingent Italian UNIFIL in compliance with the resolution 1701 of the UN Security Council.
