Considerably increase the volumes of collection and storage of milk from producer members, thus increasing a diversified and quality zero kilometer dairy production which, by resorting to local labor, can generate positive economic effects on the territory.

These are the objectives that the managers of the Aytarun municipal milk cooperative, in the district of Bint Jbeil, set out to achieve and which have now become reality thanks to the contribution of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL which financed and carried out the construction of a new department. for the preservation of milk and the maturing of dairy products, but also designed the technological adaptation of the plant through the supply of cutting-edge systems and machinery for milk processing.

It was the mayor of Aytarun, Selim Mourad, who gave the news during a short ceremony in which General Andrea Di Stasio, commander of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, the United Nations Interposition Force in South Lebanon took part.

After the ribbon was cut, the mayor of Aytarun and the managers of the cooperative expressed unanimous thanks to Italy for the great attention to a project that aims to enhance and make the cooperative even more competitive locally.

In addressing those present, General Di Stasio expressed his satisfaction in having supported one of the most important companies in the dairy sector of the Bint Jbeil district, both from an economic point of view, for the volume of business developed, and from a social point of view for the vast majority of people, not only in the municipality of Aytarun but also in the neighboring ones who, as milk-producing members or employees, will benefit from the dairy's activity.

In this situation of absolute emergency due to the spread of Coronavirus, the cooperative structures fear that they will no longer be able to transform all the milk collected by their members with the consequence of a drastic drop in sales of many processed products.

Resolutive, in this sense, was the intervention of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL thanks to which the cooperative, together with all the operators in the sector, will be able to take every possible measure in order not to stop the activity and aim for a further leap of quality, guaranteeing consumers the absolute excellence and freshness of its products, ensuring daily traceability to the stable of origin.
