At the base of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) of Chawakeer in Tire, a joint training activity between the soldiers of the LAF and the Italian peacekeepers of Sector West has ended.

LAF soldiers and Italian peaceKeepers have jointly developed several exercises aimed at testing the operational procedures in use and the close-quarter combat techniques deriving from the Military Combat Method, a very effective system deriving from various martial arts disciplines.

UNIFIL always works in close coordination with the LAF, which are a point of reference for great commitment and constant service for operations to control the territory and verify the application of resolution 1701 to ensure the stability and security of South Lebanon.

The Italian-led UNIFIL Western Sector, commanded by Brigadier General Roberto Vergori, integrates the effort of over 3.600 Blue Helmets from 17 countries of the 48 participants in the UN mission.
The activities carried out in the Operations Theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the Operational Command of Vertice Interforze (COVI), which is the high command of Defense, responsible for planning, coordinating and directing military operations, national joint exercises and multinationals and related activities.
