UNIFIL: 4 health evacuation flights for the Italair 43º group

07/11/14

From the first day, Italair's staff has been called to operate, carrying out one of the main tasks assigned to the task force: the health evacuation with the helicopter. The activation by the UNIFIL Joint Operations Center was necessary due to the worsening of the conditions of a UN military who, taken from the base where he was serving, was evacuated to the Naqoura hospital.

The conditions of the other three cases that occurred in the following days are far more serious. For two UN soldiers, in particular, whose serious condition has imposed the immediate transfer in night flight at the Saint George hospital in Beirut, the missions carried out by Italian flight crews, in synergy with the French medical teams, were decisive .

The 43 ° "Italair" task group, under the command of Lt. Col. Vincenzo Ingrosso, took over the 18 last October at the 42 ° group that left the theater operating after six months of intense work.

The flight group is the operational component of the Italair task force, commanded by Colonel Claudio Luperto.

The task force operates in the south of Lebanon, at the service of UNIFIL, from the 1979. Since then, over 38.000 flight hours have been carried out in the Lebanese skies, carrying out rescue, reconnaissance, observation and transport missions.
