A mammographer for Herat

The Italian military of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC W) recently delivered a mammograph to the Maternity Hospital in Herat.

The apparatus, which allows the detection of mammary lesions at an early stage, was donated by the "Fondazione Veronesi", with the financial contribution of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro, and was transported from Italy through the Air Force aircraft that ensure the connections between Afghanistan and Italy.

The activity is one of the initiatives to support and support the Afghan civilian population carried out by the TAAT W of Herat, an Italian-led command based on the "Garibaldi" Bersaglieri Brigade, under the orders of Brigadier General Maurizio Angelo Scardino.

The project was completed by a training course that took place at the TAAC-W Conference and Training Center. Training activity, preparatory to the operation and use of mammography by Afghan technicians, was conducted by engineer Carlo Pozzuoli, an expert in electromedical equipment, designated by the Veronesi Foundation.

At the end of the ceremony the head of the Herat public health department, Dr. Asef Kabir, and the director of the Regional Hospital of Herat, Dr. Malika Paigham, who expressed gratitude for the concrete contribution made by Italy to local health in the over the years, thanks to which many local citizens are able to access medical treatment and diagnostic tests that were not available before.
