Somalia: the CIMIC team distributes food aid

The Italian soldiers of the EUTM Somalia mission, through the CIMIC cell of the national contingent deployed in Mogadishu, distributed 14 tons of food aid in two days to about 1.200 displaced people, mostly families currently located in the Dharkeyneley and Shingani camps , Districts located in the Banadir region.

Each single "kit" distributed contains about 100 kg of food material, divided into 25 kg of flour and the same number of rice, together with sugar, legumes, oil and other basic necessities. The aid, able to feed the family for about a month, was directed following the directions provided by District Commissioner, territorial representatives who have the task of identifying the most needy families to whom they are destined.

The deliveries, which took place in the EUTM Headquarters and at the District Commissioner's office, were attended by the Ambassador of Italy to the Somali Federal Republic, Alberto Vecchi, the deputy mayor of Mogadishu Basma Amir Ahmed and the commander of the EUTM Somalia Mission, Brigadier General Fabiano Zinzone, who wished to personally greet all the representatives of the various local authorities who attended.

Ambassador Vecchi stressed that Italy's commitment to helping the Somali population is not only aimed at security, while the deputy mayor of Mogadishu wanted to express words of gratitude to the Italian government which has always shown particular closeness to the Somali population.
