Somalia: the IOC Commander visits the Italian contingent

The visit of the army corps general Luciano Portolano, commander of the Eutm Somalia mission headquarters ended today Interforze Summit Operational Command (COI).

The high officer, accompanied by the head of the operations department of the IOC, Brigadier General Luigi Del Bene, was greeted by the commander of the EUTM Somalia Mission, Brigadier General Antonello De Sio.

The IOC commander received an informative update on the Mission to Somalia from the mission commander, and then visited the headquarters of the Mission Command in Somalia, where he met the personnel of the Italian contingent employed in the Somalia EUTM Mission.

Later, accompanied by the special envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Horn of Africa, Luciano Pezzotti, the Ambassador of Italy in Somalia, Alberto Vecchi and Brigadier General Antonello De Sio, he met the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Ali Khayre.

In his final speech, General Portolano wanted to express his applause to the men and women of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Carabinieri engaged in Somalia.

Army corps general Luciano Portolano, since September 2, 2019 has been leading the Interforze Summit Operational Command, an organization directly reporting to the Chief of Staff of Defense, who exercises the planning, coordination and direction of all military operations of the Italian Armed Forces.
