The Military Civil Cooperation Cell (CIMIC) of the Italian military contingent in Somalia has completed a professional training course in favor of the Custodial Corp Guards (Penitentiary Police) of the central prison of Mogadishu.
The training activity - part of a collaborative process started in 2015 - is part of the process of renewal of the Somali prison system which aims to encourage the improvement of the general conditions of the prison population.
The course of the "Train of Trainers" typology allowed to train ten future instructors, belonging to the Penitentiary Police Corps of the Central Prison of Mogadishu.
The trained staff will thus be able to pour the knowledge acquired during the course, in favor of all prisoners who are close to punishment, facilitating their reintegration into civil society and at the same time promoting their insertion into the world of work. In the present case, the main topic dealt with during the professional training course was beekeeping.
The closing ceremony of the course took place this morning at the Mogadishu International Airport, in the presence of the Somali Minister of Justice Hassan Hussein Haji, the Ambassador of Italy to Somalia Alberto Vecchi and the commander of the Mission in Somalia EUTM-S, brigadier general Antonello De Sio.
The commander of the Italian National Support Element (IT-NSE), ten. with the. Licio Dettori, in his speech, underlined the will of the Italian Contingent to support projects that favor the social reintegration of prisoners, through the carrying out of all those activities designed to sustain themselves over time and capable of generating an economic flow that can be used to undertake new training projects that improve the living conditions of the prison population.
Brigadier General Mahad Abdirahman Adan, commander of the Custodial Corp Guards, underlined the fundamental importance of the project, expressing the sincere closeness of Somali institutions to the Italian people, always committed to supporting the population of Somalia.
