SNMG2: Ship Margottini joins the 2nd NATO naval group

Ship Carlo Margottini welcomed 2023 by starting the aggregation period at the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) which operates in the waters of the central-eastern Mediterranean.

The ship joined the group of forces in high readiness from last December 31st and departed from La Spezia last January 14th.

Once reunited with the naval device, made up of American, French and Turkish units, Nave Margottini he took part in various training activities with the ships of the group.

At the end of the first period of exercises, he was visited on board by US Navy rear admiral Michael S. Sciretta, tactical commander of the NATO unit, embarked on the US destroyer James E. Williams (class Arleigh Burke).

Admiral Sciretta immediately wanted to meet the crew that for the next 2 months will operate in conjunction with the permanent naval force of the Atlantic Alliance.

Il Margottini, active in the Mediterranean Sea, is integrated in the Operation area Noble Shield but also operates in support associated with the Operation Sea Guardian (OSG).

The tasks assigned are to monitor the maritime communication lines ensuring the necessary level of navigation safety and contributing to the compilation of a complete picture of the situation, the "situational awareness", making use of the support of the specialist teams of the third helicopter group of Catania and the marine brigade Saint Mark.
