Regional Command West conducts the Platinum Saber 2024 exercise

The assets of regional command West (RC-W), based on the 1st Bersaglieri Regiment, concluded the "Platinum Saber 2024" exercise, held at the former military airport of Gjakovё/Djakovica.

The complex training activity was aimed at evaluating the operational readiness of the units Kosovo Force of NATO (KFOR), testing the procedures for rapid deployment of troops on the ground who, during the exercise, were called to intervene to deal with various threats in an urban environment.

The “Platinum Saber” was characterized by a series of activities for maintaining a safe environment, carried out in an integrated manner by the RC-W maneuver units, together with the various KFOR assets including theoperational reserve battalion Turkish, theintelligence surveillance and reconnaissance battalion andaviation battalion multinational. 

The activity, directed by the Italian-led regional command, saw the Bersaglieri carry out a "belt" of the airport, which was followed by an raid on some houses by the Bersaglieri infantry forces and Turkish infantry of the contingent.

“I want to remind you that we are here to help maintain a safe and secure environment and guarantee freedom of movement for all communities living in Kosovo and I think that for all soldiers the best way to practice their skills is to always be ready and today I took note of this, observing positive aspects during all phases of the exercise. From the command and control ability of the commanders at various levels to what all the soldiers demonstrated during the conduct of the exercise. This keeps our readiness levels high and keeps every soldier ready and effective.”, said KFOR commander Major General Özkan Ulutaş.

The Italian contingent of the Kosovo Force (KFOR), in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, contributes to the maintenance of a safe and secure environment, as well as freedom of movement for all communities living in Kosovo, at the same time promoting beneficial activities under the direction of the Joint Forces top operational command.
