Operation Atalanta: stop in Oman for Margottini ship

(To Marina Militare)

As part of its commitment to ensure the protection of merchant shipping and vessels of the World Food Program in the Gulf of Aden and along the northern coasts of Somalia under the European flag of anti-piracy Atalanta, the frigate Margottini made an operational stop in the port of Muscat.

The days used in the port served to carry out periodic maintenance on some on-board systems and carry out the normal logistical settlement of materials and food.

At the end of the stop, after leaving the port, Nave Margottini carried out a joint exercise with units of the Royal Navy of Oman: the training activity was concentrated on kinematic maneuvers and light flash communications using Morse code. The interaction with the Omani Navy allowed the crew both to confront themselves in an international context by demonstrating their professionalism, and to refine the training of young officers on board in the conduct of maneuvers in formation.

The route of the Margottini now brings the Unit back to the Gulf of Aden and the coasts of Somalia, or the areas of greatest risk in which the activity of the frigate will be focused on combating the phenomenon of piracy, ensuring the protection of merchant traffic and ensuring free navigation .
