Operation ASPIDES: Italy assumes tactical command

The tactical command of the European Union Operation "EUNAVFOR ASPIDES" passes once again to Italy which will have the task of safeguarding economic interests and freedom of navigation in the area between the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea, thanks to the presence of a force multinational naval.

This was confirmed by the handover between Dutch Commodore George Pastoor and Rear Admiral Massimo Bonu of the Navy, which took place on board the Dutch ship Karel Doorman, in the military port of Safaga (Egypt).

ASPIDES was created to deal with repeated attacks on ships transiting the waters of the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea up to the Persian Gulf and in the North of the Indian Ocean. A strategically important operation, as it guarantees freedom of navigation and global economic interests.
