On May 4th, as part of the Operation Gabinia, Ship Luigi Rizzo delivered the medical material donated by the Francesca Rava NPH Italia Onlus Foundation and the IRCCS Ca 'Granda Policlinico di Milano Foundation to the Ghanaian port of Tema.
A ceremony on the flight deck of the frigate was the setting for this important humanitarian initiative which saw the participation of the Italian ambassador to Ghana, if Daniela d'Orlandi, and the Ghanaian Minister of Health, the Honorable Kwaku Agyemang- Manu.
"I want to express my gratitude to the captain and crew of Nave Rizzo for making this humanitarian initiative possible" this is how the ambassador intervened addressing the guests present and the ship's crew Rizzo lined up for the event.
To seal the symbolic humanitarian surrender by se d'Orlandi and the commander of the unit, frigate captain Andrea Cecchini, the words of the Ghanaian minister who recalled how Italy has been the promoter of numerous humanitarian initiatives in Ghana. The donation of medical and hospital material by the foundations and transported by MM strengthens a deep bond of friendship and trust between the two countries.
The delivery to the local authorities of the materials embarked on board the FREMM (European Multi-Mission Frigate) in the port of La Spezia on February 21st, represented a "mission within a mission" for Nave Rizzo, of significant social and humanitarian value.
Ship Rizzo it is engaged in the Gulf of Guinea until next June in the national anti-piracy mission "Gabinia", in support of the safety of maritime communication lines and the freedom of navigation in international waters. The interactions between the Armed Force, humanitarian organizations, diplomatic organizations and countries bordering the Gulf of Guinea are a sign of the functionality of the country system, as well as a concrete example of the dual use of the Italian military naval instrument.
