Ship Borsini, one month after the previous stop in Ghana, stopped again in the port of Tema and it was yet another opportunity for the crew to demonstrate their support for the children thanks to the Ghana Italian Women Association (GIWA) which, like last time, acted as an intermediary and glue for the activities carried out during the days spent on Ghanaian soil.

A month ago, the experience lived in the International School "Ronald Alex", where maintenance and painting activities were carried out in the classrooms, left the women and men of the Navy with intense emotions and awareness of the difficulties experienced daily by the African population. In the past few days, with the same enthusiasm and dedication as the first time, part of the crew of Nave Borsini visited further educational and reception institutions in the wider Accra region.

These visits were also an opportunity to deliver to the various institutions the numerous donations from Italy, mainly consisting of electro-medical equipment, medicines, books, stationery, electronic materials and toys, provided by the associations of the Italian Red Cross, by the volunteer nurses of the Italian Red Cross and by "Il sorriso che vorrei".

During the first day of meetings, the crew of Nave Borsini He went to Father Subbash's New School, which was built to replace the old school that sat right in the middle of the Agbogbloshie landfill, the largest electronic waste dump in the world.

In the new institute, built thanks to the commitment of Father Subbash and his volunteers, the GIWA association delivered, together with the goods coming from Italy, a school bus that will allow the children living in the Agbogbloshie area to reach the new school completely free of charge, thus removing them, at least during school hours, from the unhealthy environment in which they live. In addition to the material goods received, the children were able to spend a morning in the company of the Italian soldiers, to whom they dedicated, before leaving, some songs learned thanks to the deep and constant commitment of the local teachers.

The next meeting took place in the upper area of Accra, at the “Chicchi di Caffè” shelter, a non-profit organization created thanks to the idea and commitment of Simona Branca, which hosts orphaned children and children with disabilities, in the wild and naturalistic context of the small village of Agomeda.

The spirits of the crew of Nave Borsini they were immediately overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and fervor of the children, by their personal stories, sometimes brutal or surreal, but also by the courage and strength with which they try to eliminate their disabilities and the related difficulties.

All this, thanks above all to the support and constant presence of their caregivers, sweetly called "Mami" and the volunteers who continuously alternate. The presence of the Italian soldiers was the unusual opportunity for the children to experience a different day in the name of lightheartedness and warmth transmitted. At the same time, without realizing it, they made our soldiers live a unique experience, which they will carry in their hearts, even after returning to their homeland.

During the stay at the facility, plumbing work was carried out to restore the use of the toilets and washing machines, as well as repairing some children's games with the construction of a swing and finally, before returning on board, material and food products were delivered to the same Onlus, by GIWA and Navy personnel on behalf of the Italian Associations.

Ship Borsini has left the port of Tema again to resume its commitment in Operation Gabinia and, this time too, it brings with it awareness, emotions and life lessons that will remain intangible in the souls of the Italian soldiers and in the memory of the commitment to this mission.
