NATO: Fasan ship integrated into SNMG2

From 5 February to 7 March 2021, Nave Fasan is integrated into the Second Permanent Naval Group of NATO (SNMG2), commanded by the rear admiral Manuel Aguirre of the Spanish Navy, embarked on the flag unit, the frigate Cristobal Colon.

Lo Standing Nato Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) is one of the four devices that make up the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), which is part of the NATO Response Force (NRF), and is made up of naval units called upon to provide their contribution at sea through a broad spectrum of military operations.

Additional forces can be added to these naval groups, having as a core the standing units and the embarked staff, which ensure the ability to support NATO operations in time.

In this context, Nave Fasan and the other Units of SNMG2 provide NATO with a constant presence for the security of Allied countries and a deterrent force against any possible threat, guaranteeing control of merchant traffic in the Mediterranean Sea and periodic exercises with the Alliance countries and regional partners, improving NATO interoperability
