NATO: the minesweeper Gaeta becomes part of the SNMCMG2

The minesweeper Gaeta of the Navy, has joined the Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group 2 (SNMCMG2), the naval group that provides the alliance with an essential operational capacity to ensure, in times of crisis, free access to ports and the security of navigation in the Mediterranean.

At the end of the checks provided for by the health protocols provided for in the Armed Force to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the ship rejoined the NATO naval group and is currently engaged in the multinational mine countermeasures exercise "ARIADNE 20" in the waters off Patras (Greece).

The naval unit will continue its activity until the end of August to train with the navies of allied and partner countries, also participating in the multinational exercise "BREEZE 20" which will take place in Bulgaria in the waters of the Black Sea.

At the end of the activity period, Ship Gaeta he will return to the port of La Spezia where, together with the other 9 minesweepers, he will ensure the accomplishment of the missions assigned to the command of the Mine Countermeasure Forces (MARICODRAG).
