Mogadishu: CIMIC contributes to the rebirth of "Forlanini"

In recent days at the "Forlanini" hospital in Mogadishu, built in 1928, destroyed during the civil war and rebuilt also thanks to the contribution of the Italian Government, the donation ceremony of a special device called "Off Grid Box" took place ”Thanks to which it is possible to purify the water and ensure the supply of electricity necessary for the operation of the structure by exploiting solar energy.

The mayor of Mogadishu and governor of the Benadir region, dr. Omar Mohamud Mohamed (Finnish), the 1st secretary of the Italian embassy in Somalia dr. Fabio Ballerini, the mission force commander of the EUTM-Somalia mission, Brigadier General Fabiano Zinzone and the commander of the national contingent (IT-NCC), ten. with the. Licio Dettori.

Accompanied by the director of the hospital, Dr. Fadumo Abdi Maow, the civil and military authorities were able to visit the numerous projects carried out in recent months by the CIMIC cell of the Italian contingent, including the construction of a well for supply water, of a building used as a refectory and kitchen for the patients of the hospital and the donation of 300 tanks for water collection, 100 Power Banks for generating electricity, 200 LED bulbs, 1 boiler for supplying water and an induction plate, the latter both connected to the same “Off Grid Box” device.

The mayor of the city of Mogadishu and the director of the hospital wanted to thank the Italian contingent for the continuous important support guaranteed in this delicate phase of reconstruction, expressing words of praise for the national structures deployed in the country of the Horn of Africa.

In his speech, Dr. Fabio Ballerini wished to thank the numerous authorities who intervened, underlining Italy's closeness to the Somali people and reiterating the firm will of our country to actively contribute to the stabilization process underway in Somalia.

The development of projects in favor of the civil environment takes place through the CIMIC cell, made up of specialized personnel from the Multinational CIMIC Group based in Motta di Livenza, the only unit of the Army with a multinational and joint force that deals with civil-military cooperation.
