Mission Bulgaria, the multinational battle group reaches full operational status

The final exercise was successfully completed Iron Strike 24 of the multinational battle group deployed in Bulgaria.

Over 500 soldiers, from 9 nations and more than 70 combat vehicles, representing all the components combat, combat support e combat service support, were employed in an intense training activity in which defensive actions and counterattacks were simulated in a high intensity scenario in a context of warfighting.

The exercise allowed to test the effectiveness of common operating procedures, the interoperability between the different assets and the ability to operate in a complex and extremely dynamic context.

As evidence of the importance of the event, the commander of the multinational division South East, Major General Dorin Toma, the deputy chief of staff plans of the multinational corps South East, Brigadier General Eleftherios Kalles and the Chief of Staff of the land forces command Bulgarian, Brigadier General Stanimir Hristov.

Il multinational battle group deployed in Bulgaria, led by Colonel Federico Maddaluno, represents NATO's response to the action conducted by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and at the same time demonstrates the Alliance's determination to strengthen security on the south-eastern flank (deterrence) from any possible hostile action.

The results obtained during the fire activity demonstrated the high level of interoperability and preparation achieved by all the units involved. The commander of the battle group, Col. Maddaluno, expressed great satisfaction for the results achieved, underlining the commitment and professionalism of all the soldiers involved. "This milestone represents an important result for the Italian-led multinational battle group. The results achieved with today's exercise represent the culmination of the activity conducted in recent months with a view to fully achieving the mission assigned to the battle group."

The NATO mission conducted by the national contingent is defensive in nature, proportionate and fully in line with the international commitment of the Atlantic Alliance which intends to strengthen the principles of deterrence and defense against potential threats and defense of Euro-Atlantic spaces.
