The occasion was propitious to draw, in the presence of the commander of UNIFIL, general of division Paolo Serra, a point of situation on the numerous stabilization initiatives carried out by our contingent, in close coordination with the Lebanese armed forces (LAF). These activities, also conducted in agreement and to support the local population and institutions, have certainly contributed to maintaining and increasing stability and security in southern Lebanon and, consequently, in the entire country and in the middle area - Oriental.
As evidence of the goodness of the results achieved, the transferor commander of the western sector - Brigadier General Maurizio Riccò, who handed over the orders to Brigadier General Fabio Polli, was awarded the Lebanese medal of the National Order of Cedar and of the Cooperation Medal Slovenian.
Admiral Binelli Mantelli wished to underline in his speech the importance of UNIFIL, considered the main stabilizing force in the region, but also highlighted the historical ties between Italy and Lebanon, and the growing cooperation in the field of education among the two countries. "Italy is actively involved in the International Support Group for Lebanon (ISG), under the aegis of the United Nations, with the aim of supporting, through dedicated training and cooperation programs, the growth of the Lebanese Armed Forces, always called more in the future to guarantee the security and stability of their country ".
