Lebanon: new classrooms for a Rumaysh school

The Italian military contingent of Unifil, deployed in southern Lebanon, has renovated the second floor of the school building "Our Lady of Lebanon".

The delivery of the works took place in record time in view of the resumption of lessons.

The project, financed with funds from the Italian Ministry of Defense, was carried out by the contingent's civil-military cooperation specialists in close coordination with the local authorities, making use of local labor, with positive economic repercussions on the territory.

The school director, Sister Maria Nassar, participated in the inauguration ceremony who, with heartfelt gratitude and gratitude, addressed to the Italian "blue helmets" and to Italy in general, feelings of sincere brotherhood also on behalf of the teachers and the many students who could not be present at the symbolic cutting of the tricolor ribbon, due to the precautionary measures in place to counter and contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The commander of the west sector of Unifil, general Andrea Di Stasio, strongly recalled the importance of the service rendered by the scholastic institute led by the Antonian sisters, “A veritable educational center committed to nurturing knowledge, the culture of solidarity coexistence between different religious communities and the application of the principles of citizenship and the fight against all forms of discrimination in the younger generations. Security, but above all peace in Lebanon ", concluded Di Stasio, "It is not built only with the Armed Forces".

“Our Lady of Lebanon” is a comprehensive institute founded and run by the Antonian nuns in Rumaysh, in southern Lebanon. The school is attended by about 600 students, children and teenagers between 3 and 14 years of all social backgrounds and religious beliefs, coming from the village and the neighboring towns of the Bint Jbeil district.

The renovation works, carried out in compliance with the regulations in force in Lebanon regarding the protection, safety and health of workers, involved an area of ​​630 square meters, a space in which there are long corridors that connect seven welcoming classrooms, two modern laboratories computer science and science, a multimedia teaching room and all essential services.
