An important quantity of medical material was delivered by the Italian contingent of UNIFIL to the Red Cross of Tire, in Southern Lebanon.

These are pediatric, life-saving and therapeutic medicines, wheelchairs, blood test tubes, disposable gloves, bandages of various types, diapers and toys from Italy, which were delivered by the Italian Blue Helmets to the Lebanese association during the course of a symbolic ceremony, held in Tire in the presence of the president of the Red Cross of the city, Mouzayan Silklawy Ajami, and the commander of Italbatt, colonel, Carlo Di Pinto.

The activity is the result of close coordination between local volunteer organizations and the civil-military cooperation specialists of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, with the aim of supporting Lebanese volunteers in the fight against Coronavirus.

In thanking the Italian soldiers of the mission in Lebanon for their proximity and continuous support to the population, the representative of the Red Cross highlighted that the material received will be used to help the poorest sections of the population who live in rural villages farthest from the hospitals.

In his speech, Colonel Di Pinto remarked that the donation is one of the priorities of the Italian mission in the "Land of the cedars", aimed at the continuous improvement of the living conditions of the Lebanese people, with the awareness that the materials provided will help the municipalities in the Tire area to face the emergency represented by the pandemic in progress.

Assistance to the Lebanese government and, as on this occasion, to the various entities that support the institutions, together with the monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and the support of the Lebanese armed forces, are among the tasks assigned to the UNIFIL contingent in compliance with resolution 1701 of the UN Security Council.
