Lebanon: first aid lessons from Italian blue helmets

18/09/14

In the past few days, the medical personnel in the Support Group Adherence (GSA) of the Joint Task Force Lebanon carried out a first aid course for the population of Shihine, a village in southern Lebanon where the Italian contingent of UNIFIL operates, consisting of soldiers of the "Ariete" brigade.

The activity, with theoretical and practical lessons on the main medical and health notions and intervention techniques, was followed by fifteen Shihine inhabitants, who thanks to the acquired knowledge will be able to provide voluntary assistance service at the local clinic.

At the end of the course, the commander of the GSA Colonel Alessandro Sciarpa, together with the mayor of the village Hammoud Wissam, presented the certificates of participation to the visitors.

Assistance to the local population is one of the main tasks assigned to the UNIFIL contingent by the UN 1701 Resolution, together with monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and support for the Lebanese armed forces; tasks that the "Ariete" brigade military perform here with commitment, professionalism and transparency.
