Lebanon: Italbatt trains the Lebanese Armed Forces

The Italbatt peacekeepers, the maneuvering unit of the Italian contingent of Unifil based on the 3rd Bersaglieri Regiment, organized and conducted the "Combat medical evacuation course", a three-day training course for the Lebanese armed forces aimed at improving theoretical knowledge and the practical skills of Lebanese soldiers in first aid interventions in combat, through the simulation of different health emergency situations.

The course, conducted by medical and paramedical personnel of the Italian task force in a barracks of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in Tire, achieved the set objectives, allowing to qualify eleven Lebanese soldiers in the matter and to improve cohesion between the units of Unifil and the LAF through a fruitful exchange of experiences. In particular, "Basic Life Support" interventions were simulated for the treatment of gunshot wounds, bone fractures and blast trauma and - with the representation on the ground of a simulated road accident - the extraction procedures were tested. , first aid and evacuation of the injured.

The end-of-course certificates were delivered by the commander of Italbatt, Colonel Carlo Di Pinto, during a brief but significant ceremony at the headquarters of the South Litani Sector in Tire, in the presence of the military authorities of Southern Lebanon.

Supporting the local armed forces, together with monitoring the cessation of hostilities and assisting the Lebanese population, is one of the main tasks assigned to the Italian contingent of Unifil in compliance with UN Security Council resolution 1701.
