The ceremony was attended by the commander of Sector West of UNIFIL, Brigadier General Stefano Del Col who, in his speech, thanked the commander commander for the results achieved and the considerable effort lavished by the 8 transport regiment during his mandate, wishing, at the same time, good work to the incoming commander.
During the six months of stay in the land of the cedars, the soldiers of the 8 ° transport regiment of Remanzacco have carried out, with their assets, countless operational, logistic, health and civil-military cooperation activities.
In particular, in addition to ensuring the logistical movements by land and sea for personnel, means and materials of the contingent, the component for nuclear, chemical and bacteriological detection has carried out an intense activity of environmental monitoring, carrying out constant chemical tests and performing analyzes of laboratory on food and soil.
In addition, the health structure, in addition to providing services to staff based at Shama base, has carried out numerous and important "Medical Care" interventions in favor of the local population. 1950 tons of food have been distributed, 400.000 liters of water, 86.000 kilometers of fish and 118 have been transported from Shama to Beirut and back, always guaranteeing full support to all the components on the ground, contributing, in an incisive way, to the 1701 resolution of the United Nations.
