Lebanon: the Italian blue helmets make the municipal building in Debel

The blue helmets of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, have built with the community of Debel, a town in southern Lebanon, the building that will house the municipal seat of the village.

The commander of UNIFIL Sector West, General Fabio Polli, and representatives of local political and religious authorities, including the Maronite archbishop of Tiro, Chucrallah Nabil El Hage, spoke at the inauguration ceremony, which took place on Saturday in the presence of numerous citizens. , a native of Debel.

The project is the result of a joint effort carried out by the local community, which initially provided the foundation and the supporting structure of the building, and by the Italian contingent which, through the CIMIC component, subsequently realized the completion works, ie external infill, flooring, fixtures and fittings.

During the ceremony, the mayor of Debel, Akel Nadaf, thanked General Polli for the attention and support of the Italian contingent in favor of the population of the village, also recalling the works carried out in the past by the peacekeepers. The general, in turn, underlined the symbolic value of the inaugurated building, the result of the common commitment of the municipalities and Italian blue helmets.

Assistance to the population and support to local institutions are among the main tasks assigned to UNIFIL by the UN 1701 resolution, together with the monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and the support of the Lebanese armed forces, tasks carried out by the military of the Ariete brigade, Land of the Cedars since last April.
