Lebanon: the Italian Blue Helmets take care of the population at home

Health support activities continue - the so-called medical care - that the Italian contingent in Lebanon has been carrying out for some time in favor of the local population.

In recent days, in fact, numerous municipalities of Jibal Al-Btum and Zibiquin, belonging to the Italian-led area of ​​operations, were reached, where elderly, women and children were visited by the Italian medical teams, at their respective Social Development Center citizens.

Le medical care fall within the activities envisaged by resolution no. 1701 of 2006 of the United Nations, in particular among those supporting the local population. Specifically, the medical teams employed in the unities move "at home", to provide general medical support to municipalities without a public health facility and are made up of doctors, nurses and health logistic operators of the Italian Army.

As a premise of the health activities, they were donated to the heads of the Social Development Centers of Jibal Al-Btum and Zibiquin, masks, protective suits, surgical gloves, disinfectants, aids for babies, aerosol equipment.

These donations on the sidelines of the activities of medical care, were coordinated by the specialists of the Multinational Cimic Group di Motta di Livenza (TV) and are part of the intervention area for the essential support to the civil environment in the health sector, constituting further aid for the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Italian mission in Lebanon led by the "Aosta" brigade, under the command of Brigadier General Giuseppe Bertoncello, is responsible for West Sector of UNIFIL in which 3.800 UN peacekeepers operate from 16 of the 48 contributing countries to the UN mission and of which more than 1.000 Italian UN peacekeepers are members.
