Lebanon: Quadriga exercise for the Blue Helmets

Naqoura (Lebanon). Yesterday, at the headquarters of the United Nations mission headquarters in Lebanon, the “Quadriga 2020” exercise ended, in which the Italian UNIFIL blue helmets also took part.

The exercise, which saw the use of Italian assets of Italbatt, maneuvering unit of the Italian contingent based on the 3rd Bersaglieri regiment of the "Sassari" brigade, and elements of the Force Commander Reserve on a French-Finnish basis, it had the purpose of verifying the plans and refine the immediate intervention procedures to be adopted in the event of a rise in tension in southern Lebanon, such as to require the evacuation or transfer of personnel to a safe area civil service of UNIFIL and their family members.

The activity, conducted in compliance with the restrictions related to the Covid-19 emergency, took place in the training area of ​​"Green Hill", in Naqoura, and allowed the units exercised to verify the command and control functions, through the '' use of UNIFIL digitalized communication systems, maintaining a high level of training and interoperability achieved between the units of the various contingents.

The Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNIFIL, Major General Stefano Del Col, personally followed the activity, making use of the staff of his command, in order to evaluate the correct execution of the procedures by the units exercise. Also present at the final stages of the exercise were the commander of the Western sector of UNIFIL, Brigadier General Andrea Di Stasio, and the Chief of Staff of the mission, Brigadier General Jean - Pierre Fague.

The men and women of the Italian armed forces, who have been operating in the UNIFIL mission since 2006, have as their main objectives the constant monitoring of Blue Line in order to ensure the cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel, support for the local population, through the component of civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) and support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, through the coordination, planning and execution of activities joint training and operational.
