The commitment of the Italian "Blue Helmets" in Southern Lebanon continues in favor of schools and local voluntary associations.
Meeting the requests received from the institutions present on site, specialized operators of the Italbatt 5th Engineer Regiment of Italbatt, the maneuvering unit of the Italian contingent of Unifil based on the 3rd Bersaglieri Regiment of the "Sassari" brigade, carried out a series of interventions improvement of some school infrastructures, making usable courtyards and playgrounds abandoned for some time due to the chronic lack of funds for this important sector.
In addition, on the occasion of the upcoming end-of-year holidays, the Italian military organized a fundraiser for the purchase of toys and educational material that were donated to primary school students in the province of Tire. "A small but significant gesture", Colonel Di Pinto, commander of Italbatt, defined it, "Which contributed to giving moments of light-heartedness to the children of Southern Lebanon in a period that is certainly not easy for the country", hard hit by the economic crisis and the ongoing health emergency.
Supporting local authorities and re-establishing conditions for assistance to the population are among the main tasks assigned to Unifil by UN Security Council Resolution 1701, together with monitoring the cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel and supporting Lebanese Armed Forces.
